Jason Niehoff Regularly Engaged Extra Musician
Jason W. Niehoff, a highly accomplished percussionist and timpanist based in Washington, DC, has been regularly engaged with the National Symphony Orchestra since 2019. He previously served as Principal Timpanist with the United States Navy Band from 2014 to 2021, following seven years as a percussionist in the same ensemble. Jason has performed with numerous other leading orchestras, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, and New World Symphony, among others.
A frequent collaborator with major artists and ensembles, Jason has appeared at many of the world's leading venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Powell Hall, the Kennedy Center, and La Scala. He has worked under influential conductors including Pierre Boulez, David Robertson, Leonard Slatkin, Michael Tilson Thomas, Kurt Masur, and Gunther Schuller.
Jason holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Orchestral Performance from the Manhattan School of Music and has studied under renowned musicians including Chris Lamb (New York Philharmonic), Duncan Patton (Metropolitan Opera), John Kasica (St. Louis Symphony), Rick Holmes (St. Louis Symphony), and James Preiss (Steve Reich and Musicians).
