Alexandria Shiner Soprano
Alexandria Shiner, soprano, continues to garner critical acclaim for her “blazing soprano” (Wall Street Journal) and is a 2020 Grand Finals Winner in The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
A recent graduate of the Cafritz Young Artists Program of Washington National Opera where she was seen in The Magic Flute (First Lady), The Consul (Magda), and the world premiere of Sankaram’s Taking Up Serpents (Kayla). COVID- 19 cancellations include her debut at The Metropolitan Opera in Il barbiere di Siviglia (Berta), a return The Glimmerglass Festival for Wagner’s Die Feen (Ada), debuts with Victoria Symphony (Canada) and Oregon Symphony for Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, and a return to Choral Arts Society of Washington for Verdi’s Messa di Requiem. Recent orchestral engagements include the Messa di Requiem with Quad City Symphony Orchestra and Symphony No. 9 with the National Symphony Orchestra.
Upcoming engagements include a return to The Glimmerglass Festival and debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic for Die Walküre (Gerhilde) and The Metropolitan Opera for Elektra (4th Maid).
In the 2018-2019 season she was seen in the North American premiere of Liszt's lost opera Sardanapalo (Mirra) and the title role in Ariadne auf Naxos with Wolf Trap Opera. Concert appearances included Schmitt’s Psaume XLVII with the Choral Arts Society of Washington.
Alexandria began the 2017-2018 season singing the title role in Alcina for the Young Artist Performance at Washington National Opera. Other season highlights include Don Carlo (Celestial Voice) and Il barbiere di Siviglia (Berta) at WNO, and a debut at The Glimmerglass Festival in Il barbiere di Siviglia (Berta).
She is 2019 Sara Tucker Study Grant recipient, 2017 Encouragement Award recipient in the Middle East Tennessee District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and she placed second in the Young Artist category of the 2016 Orpheus National Music Competition for Vocalists. Alexandria also competed as the Mid- South Regional Winner in the 2016 National Association of Teachers of Singing ( NATS) Artist Awards in Chicago. A native of Waterford, Michigan, Alexandria received her Master of Music from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and her Bachelor of Music from Western Michigan University.
