All internships at the Center are not based in creating art. The program is focused on giving experience working within an arts organization. While most of our interns have roots tied to art, ultimately their job placements will not provide opportunities for the creation of new art.

An EEI intern can expect to spend 20 hours onsite at the Center.

If you do not have an intellectual disability, you're encouraged to apply to the Center's internships program. The EEI internship program is fully inclusive with the Center internship program, and is one way for individuals with intellectual disabilities to receive admittance into the internship program.

Eligibility requirements are not flexible. Although, for individuals that have an intellectual disability, but do not have that diagnosis, they should submit additional documentation to support meeting that eligibility criterion.Documentation of an intellectual disability is flexible, although it must reflect the diagnosis from a psychoeducational assessment. 

The EEI internship program is fully inclusive with the Center's internship program. They’re considered to be the same program with an alternative means for people with intellectual disabilities to receive acceptance into the program. EEI interns are expected to adhere to the same expectations of collegiate interns, which include attending professional development workshops and a weekly course that focuses on building strong foundational skills for working in an arts organization.

The enthusiasm of previous EEI interns is always greatly appreciated! Unfortunately, due to how small the EEI internship program is, we’re unable to consider previous EEI interns for current internship slots.

All EEI interns are required to have a job coach onsite until the intern demonstrates proficiency within the internship. Job coaches are expected to stay onsite until staff managing the EEI internship program approve fading to ensure that the intern has a successful experience.

While we appreciate all teachers submitting applications for their students, ultimately a teacher can only refer an applicant if it’s with a service provider. A transition specialist within the school would also be considered a service provider. Please note that the referring agency (the person recommending the applicant) must sign a Referring Social Agency Agreement, and is liable for providing a job coach for the applicant.

We’re continually thankful for the support of parent(s)/guardian(s) that are deeply involved in their child’s professional success. The EEI internship program aligns as closely as possible to a realistic job application and work experience. That being said, parent(s)/guardian(s) should coordinate with their service provider as they deem necessary to ensure their input is being communicated throughout the application process. If an applicant is admitted into the program, parents are invited to pre-orientation to meet all staff involved in their child’s internship.
