Life in Marketing & Sales
The Marketing and Sales Department targets and tackles a variety of sales goals through its administrative divisions: Marketing, Advertising, Social Media, Digital, Retail Operations, Campus Planning, and Sales and Ticketing. In addition, the department stewards the institutional Brand through visual and written communications, as well in the patron experience and audience engagement. The Marketing team strategizes and implements campaigns for the 2000+ performances on stage annually with an emphasis on data analysis and responsive advertising. The Advertising team creates compelling written and graphic communications that sell performances, promote community engagement, and support the institutional mission. The Social Media team uses paid and organic promotion on multiple platforms to widen the reach of advertising and marketing efforts. The Digital team is responsible for all consumer-facing website, multimedia, and broadcast content for the Center. Retail Operations manages the Gift Shops and concession sales. Sales and Ticketing oversees the Box Office, Group Sales, Subscriptions, and customer service.
Team Mission
Marketing and Sales is responsible for developing and implementing strategies and advertising plans for 2,000+ events each performance season in order to reach an annual revenue target of approximately $50-60 million, depending on the scope of the season.
Fun Facts
- Advertising creates and publishes the bimonthly Center magazine, informing approximately 250,000 patrons about upcoming events and institutional news.
- The Digital team oversees Kennedy-Center.org as the ticket-purchasing portal and institutional face of the Kennedy Center.
- The Multimedia team produces original digital content highlighting Kennedy Center performances and programs to be posted on the Digital Stage area of the website as well as social channels such as Facebook and YouTube.
- Campus Planning is responsible for the planning and execution of a superior experience for all guests and artists coming to the Kennedy Center, ensuring that all performances and events are seamlessly coordinated, and that all artists have an experience commensurate with working within one of the premier performing arts venues in the United States.
