The Office of Operations & Maintenance addresses all routine activities required for the operations of the facility’s infrastructure and building systems, which are comprised within the approximate 1.5 million square feet of space. This office addresses preventive and predictive maintenance activities, handles fire-protection systems, elevator and handicapped lift systems, and the electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and sanitary water systems such as chillers, heat exchangers, gas boilers, hot water heaters, water treatment systems, and the building automation system. It also handles office space management, small renovations, and the administration of leased warehouse space.    

The Office of Facility Services is responsible for work executed by non-wage-grade employees managing multiple contractors and services. Responsibilities include building engineering services, utilities management, night management, building inspection program, helpdesk/work order management, and a variety of service contracts. Facility Services is also responsible for the upkeep of the loading dock areas within the service tunnel, preventive maintenance of the Center’s vehicles, inventory control, management and upkeep of as-built drawings, management and administration of all mail distribution and courier services, and providing support to Minor Repair and Memorial Interpretation Programs.  

The Project Management Office (PMO) conducts all planning, design, and construction work related to capital projects. This office performs major projects such as theater renovations, as well as infrastructure improvements such as elevator modernizations and fire sprinkler installations. The PMO manages the annual appropriation received for the execution of capital projects including the development of planning documents and studies such as the annual Comprehensive Building Plan (CBP).  

The Office of Auxiliary Services manages the garage and parking operations, including the red shuttle buses, which provide transportation between the Kennedy Center and the Foggy Bottom Metro station.
