Liz Story released her first album, “Solid Colors,” in 1983 after being signed by Will Ackerman to the legendary Windham Hill record label. Between 1983 and 2005, she released ten full-length studio albums of original solo piano compositions, jazz standards, and holiday music.

Tonight’s performance continues a remarkable renaissance for Liz, both personally and professionally. Ms. Story spent three years relearning her own music after suffering a brain hemorrhage in 2019. She returned to performing full-length concerts in 2022, and gave a sold-out 40th Anniversary Concert at Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in New York City in November 2023. In 2023-2024, Sony Music Entertainment honored Liz’s career with the release of three albums: The Essential Liz Story, a thirty-song collection curated by the artist to represent her most important original compositions; Liz Story Songs of Christmas, which presents all of her holiday music in a single collection; and Liz Story Jazz Standards & Originals. In 2022, her entire sheet music catalog of 89 titles was published on her website and made available to pianists worldwide.

Liz’s unique style incorporates jazz harmonies and rhythms with classical elements. Her compositions hold unique depth and emotional complexity. Free from rigid adherence to key signatures, her pieces are experimental and fluid, blending an intuitive sense of rhythm and harmony with a compelling melodic thread. In her energetic pieces, graceful scales are counterbalanced with compelling rhythms, while her slower pieces are grounded and reflective, with poignant, carefully chosen chord progressions. Liz’s playing invites the listener into a rich emotional space full of nuance and complexity, leaving a lasting imprint of beauty.

At 74 years old, Liz takes joy in performing solo concerts across the U.S., giving fans a unique opportunity to hear her timeless music in an intimate live setting.
